The Boy in The Suitcase (Nina Borg #1) – Lene Kaaberbøl
When Nina’s friend asks her to help with an unusual task, Nina agrees: She goes to the luggage locker at her friend’s request and removes the suitcase inside. However, the unusual situation quickly turns dangerous when Nina opens the suitcase to find an unconscious child. Meanwhile, the boy’s mother awakes in the hospital. Sigita has no recollection of how she got there and no one can tell her where her child is. Her last memory of the boy is of him playing on a playground… and the fair haired woman who gave him chocolate. With no one to turn to and the police not taking her kidnapping claims seriously, Sigita must find her son’s abductors on her own. As the kidnappers chase after Nina to reclaim the boy, Sigita pursues the mysterious couple who took her son.
Thoughts: I listened to this book on Audible. At first it was confusing trying to keep track of the characters, because of the alternating narrators and the European names that I was not familiar with. However, I was quickly swept away by the story and wanted to know who took Sigita’s son and why. I love that the main characters are strong women filled with a steadfast resolve to solve the mystery by any means necessary, even if it means hurling themselves into danger along the way.
