Touring Egypt with Bucket List Travel

Growing up, I viewed Egypt through a sort of mythical shroud. I knew about the land of pyramids and mummies from a very young age, but I never fathomed I would actually go there… That is, until I heard about an amazing trip being organized by Bucket List Travel at a fantastic price for an all female travel group that I’m part of called Girls Love Travel.

Numerous people have reached out to me to find out how they can go on a similar trip, and I’ve been pointing each of them to Bucket List Travel. I wanted to give you all a breakdown of why I loved their tour group so much and why I will be booking all my future trips to Egypt through them!

The view from my balcony in Cairo!

My group spent 4 days in Cairo, and then took a 4 day Nile Cruise. We were met at the airport by a friendly staff member who already had our visas arranged and expertly navigated us to a waiting air conditioned van where we were given water and Egyptian juice boxes. We were then transported to our pyramid view rooms at the Le Meridien in Cairo. Our itinerary was filled with excitement and delicious food. To top it off, we had an incredible Egyptologist named Yasser as our guide throughout the entirety of our journey who explained the historical importance of each place we visited.

We went to the pyramids and got to go inside to see the ancient tomb within. We rode camels. We took a hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings. We went inside multiple tombs and saw King Tut’s mummified remains. We sailed on the Nile. We visited countless temples that were adorned from floor to ceiling with intricate hieroglyphics. Ultimately, we experienced more in 10 days than what some people are able to in a lifetime, and it was all possible because of Bucket List Travel’s expertise in trip planning and knowledge of Egypt.

Usually when I go on a trip, I come back home and can sum it up in a few short sentences. “It was a really great trip.” “We had a wonderful time.” “I saw so much.” I struggle to sum up my trip to Egypt in such a simplistic way though. I knew that I would enjoy my time there, but I had no idea that I would absolutely fall head over heels for the culture, language, history, and people.

I loved the noisy traffic filled with cacophonous honking and lack of marked lanes that made for confusing and exciting car rides. I looked forward to hearing the call to prayer 5 times a day, even though I had no idea what was being said. Arabic was a beautiful puzzle that I hope to solve over the next year. I’m usually a picky eater, but I did not come across anything that I did not like during my time there.

Despite what the media had conditioned me to think, I felt 100% safe in a predominantly Muslim country and welcomed by all. It was so empowering to travel with a group of women from around the globe who shared the same passion for traveling that I do. This trip opened my eyes to a whole new world that I cannot wait to get back to.

I can honestly say though, if I had booked with any other group, my experience would not have been as grand. It is evident that each person who works for BLT has a deeply rooted love for Egypt that shines through in their work. I cannot thank them enough for this life changing adventure.

In Aswan, signs are marked with the saying “Sweet you are, my country” and sweet it was.

Our fabulous Egyptologist guide – Yasser

Every person at Bucket List Travel was so incredibly kind and helpful in making this the trip of a lifetime, but I would like to give a special shoutout to these very special people:

*Ahmed for warmly welcoming us when we first arrived at the airport and then swinging us by the pharmacy to get medicine when we left.

*Muhammad for driving us around in Cairo and playing “Laa” about a thousand times on the bus at our request.

*Yasser for being the best guide in the universe (and now a life long friend). You are so patient and kind and a fountain of knowledge. Thank you so much for showing us your beautiful country.

*And last, but certainly not least, Annie for being our point of contact and a provider of so much useful information prior to our trip. A million thanks to you for bringing BLT and GLT together!
